The gutting of the Miami Marlins' coaching staff includes pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre Jr. According to reports from MLB.com and the Miami Herald, Marlins president of baseball operations Peter Bendix let go of the entire coaching staff, which comprised many individuals on expiring contracts. Stottlemyre, the son of ex-Yankees pitcher and pitching coach Mel Stottlemyre, had one year remaining on his deal.
